Opening a scene on Meta Quest

The link you publish for phones also opens in the Quest Browser. A scene placed on a real surface starts in passthrough AR through WebXR — no app to install, no store review, and every re-publish reaches the headset right away.

Beta

Headset support is in beta. It uses the WebXR standard built into the Quest Browser and is aimed at Quest 3 and 3S. If a scene misbehaves in the headset, tell us — those reports go to the front of the queue.

Three steps

1. Publish a surface scene

In Scenes, set the scene's trigger to Surface, build it, and publish. You get one link and a QR code — the same ones you would send to a phone.

Getting started walks through triggers and publishing.

Put the headset on and open the link in the Quest Browser. Typing a short address works; a bookmark or a message you send yourself is quicker.

3. Enter AR

Tap the start button and confirm the browser's prompt. The scene appears on a real floor or table in passthrough.

What works in the headset

updates the moment you re-publish
  • Nothing to install. No developer mode, no sideloading, no store listing to wait for. If the headset has a browser, it can open the scene.
  • One link for every device. The same link works on phones and in the headset, so a client can check the scene on whatever they have at hand.
  • Always the latest version. Every re-publish reaches everyone who opens the link — no old build is left behind on a device.

If AR does not start

  • The scene is not a Surface scene. Only Surface scenes enter passthrough AR in the headset; check the trigger in Scenes.
  • The prompt was dismissed. Reload the page and confirm the browser's request to enter AR.
  • It opens flat on the headset. That is a 3D scene — it has no AR to enter. Switch the trigger to Surface if it should sit in the room.
