Scenes

The Scenes panel shows how your project is organised. Here you add spaces and scenes, and choose what makes each scene appear.

Open it with Scenes in the left rail.

The list

What you seeWhat it means
A stripe on the leftThis is the main space or the main scene.
A line under a scene nameThe trigger this scene uses.
A badgeThis scene has problems you should check.
  • + at the top adds a space.
  • + in a space's header adds a scene to that space.

Right-click a space or a scene to open its menu:

  • Rename, Duplicate and Delete work for both.
  • Make main makes a space the main one.
  • Trigger's start scene makes a scene the main one.
  • Move to start and Move to end change the order of scenes.
Scene or space?

Scenes in one space share the background, lighting and units, and switching between them is instant. Use scenes for the steps of one experience. Add a new space when you need completely different surroundings.

Choose a trigger

A trigger decides when a scene appears. Select a scene, then pick a trigger in the Type list of its Trigger settings.

TriggerThe scene appears when…
3Dright away, with no AR. Good for building and testing.
Imagethe camera recognises a picture you uploaded.
QRa QR code is scanned.
Surfacethe visitor places it on a floor, wall or table.
Facea face is found.
360°a panoramic environment opens.

To place content in a real, scanned place, use a Surface scene with VPS turned on. See VPS below.

Image

  1. Upload the picture.
  2. Enter its real printed size in Width and Height.
The printed size sets the scale

If you say the picture is 20 cm wide but it is really 40 cm, your content appears at half its size. Measure the printed picture.

Pictures that track well

Photos and busy, irregular artwork track well. Logos on white, large flat areas, repeating patterns and glossy prints do not. Detail and contrast matter much more than resolution.

QR

Enter the text the code holds, and its printed size in QR side length.

Surface

SettingWhat it does
Binding typeWhere the scene goes: floor, wall, ceiling or table.
Start immediatelyOn: the scene is placed on the first matching surface found. Off: the visitor taps where to place it.

Face

  1. In Anchor type, pick the point the content follows: nose, forehead, chin, eyes, eyebrows, ears, nose base or bottom lip.
  2. Set Face size. It is used for scale.

Turn on Enable face grid to add a texture that follows the face (Face texture). You can also choose Fill eyes, Fill mouth and Flip texture horizontally.

VPS

VPS places your content in a real place that your team has scanned.

  1. Set the scene's trigger to Surface.
  2. Turn on Use VPS.
  3. In Locations, choose which of your team's scanned maps to use.

Hints

Hints turns on-screen prompts on or off. They tell visitors what to point at or where to tap. Hints work in image, QR, face, surface and 360° scenes.

Scene scripts

A scene can have its own scripts, in its Behaviors section. Use them for behaviour that does not belong to one object. A scene script starts and stops with its scene.

For behaviour that must keep running when the scene changes, use the space's scripts instead. See Space settings.

Several scenes on one trigger

Scenes with the same trigger (the same picture or the same QR code) form a group. Only one of them shows at a time. So one printed poster can open chapter one today and chapter two after the visitor moves on.

How this works when the project runs: Objects and scenes.

Next: Layers — the objects in the current scene.
